Dear Sisters in Christ,

I am often asked how to create a program or an event. Here are a few ideas to help you organize your thoughts.


  1. Pray for guidance. Proverbs 16:3 says, “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.”
  2. Form a committee. Ecclesiastes 4:12 says, “Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”
  3. Pray for guidance with committee. Psalm 55:17 says, “Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice.”
  4. Make a list of possible themes.
  5. Make a list of goals and a target audience.
  6. Develop a list of resources-people, books, LWML Catalog programs, Internet etc.
  7. Divide resource list between committee and research resources.
  8. Report to committee available resources for date chosen for event.
  9. Pray for wisdom in choosing a theme. James 1:5 says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.”
  10. Choose a theme and facilitator for the event.
  11. Make a list of needed committees: devotion, program, invitations, hostesses, food, set-up, clean-up decorations, favors, music, and entertainment.
  12. Choose committees and assign tasks, being specific about expectations.
  13. Check progress of committees at 2 months, 6 weeks, 1 month, 2 weeks, and week of the event.
  14. Pray for the Lord to bless the event. Jeremiah 17:7 says, “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.”
  15. Set-up as much as possible the day before the event.
  16. Make a time line and write a dialog for the event including welcome, prayer, devotion, and program.
  17. Evaluate the event. God’s blessings as you learn to create your own events. You will involve many people in the process and give them an opportunity to share their special talents and skills with others.
